"I’m still filled with Black love from the time we spent connecting and learning together in Madison, WI at the Up & Coming conference. Although it was my first time attending in person along with the first time meeting most of you, the space we curated felt familiar. The collective wealth of knowledge that was present felt like a true treasure.

I hope you feel nourished reflecting on all of the dynamic sessions that took place on Thursday and how the tone was set by the Black-led day for the remainder of the conference. Thanks brother amaha sellassie for naming how we transformed the energy and stepping in to present during the coop 101 session. Much gratitude and love to all of the presenters for sharing their brilliance with us - Jade Barker, randolph carr, Olivia Chatman, Cassia Heron, Jamila Medley, Damilola Odetola, and Baba Malik Yakini. Also thanks to Debbie Trocha, Stuart Reid, JQ Hannah, and all of the Up & Coming planning team for all of your work.

The story booth was my absolute favorite space! Thank you LeeAnn Morrissette for your creativity, storytelling skills and working with Basi, local Black photographer. It felt surreal watching power shift through taking control of our narrative as participants sat and spoke in their dignity. Be sure to stay tuned to the NBFJA Black food map, where we will amplify Black-led cooperatives.

Most importantly, sooo much appreciation for each of you for traveling in a pandemic, engaging in constructive conversation, and for your willingness to work collectively to create solutions. Be sure to look out for the Up & Coming 2023 save the date."
